Frequently-asked questions
Accessibility
Is the Park wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the park is wheelchair accessible. However when accessing the woods that is down to your own discretion.
What is the ground like?
Well, we are a farm so please make sure you wear the appropriate footwear because it can get muddy depending on the time of year.
Animals
Can I bring my dog into the park?
Sorry due to our animals we do not allow any dogs in the park.
Are all your animals on display?
We do not force our animals to be out on display – we are home to over 100 animals and they have a choice to come out into their enclosures or to stay in their houses. You may need to walk a couple of times around the park to spot all our animals. Also at times, our enclosures may change but we do our best to keep the public informed.
Why do you only have one animal in an enclosure?
We are a not-for-profit animal sanctuary that offers an animal a home for life. Some of our residents are elderly and will not mix with other animals. Our keepers will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
Do you take in any unwanted birds? Or any birds that are found?
At moment we are unable to take in any more birds. If you find a bird please take it to the vets or contact the RSPCB. We also are not taking any chickens or Cockerells.
General
Is the tearoom open?
Unfortunately we had to close our tearoom due to storm damage and then due to the rising cost of electricity. It is unsustainable for us to currently re-open it at this time. You can purchase a range of hot drinks and snacks at the gift shop and we have a jungle barn that provides shelter and a small picnic area with a play area for children. Please could you pay by cash when purchasing small items in the gift shop.
Can I smoke in the park?
We do not allow smoking or vaping in Porfell Wildlife park. Please be respectful of this.
Do you accept student placements?
Yes, we accept students. We are strongly linked with local colleges and universities. Please note to enquire about a placement please contact the park. We only have a set amount of space per day for a student to work alongside a keeper which fills up quickly. Students can come on a weekday or weekend.
Can I go in with any of the animals?
At this moment in time, no members of the public are allowed in any of the animal enclosures.
Do you do Keeper day experiences?
Unfortunately at this moment in time we are unable to offer this experience.
Are all your animals elderly?
The majority of our animals are elderly and have been with us for a long time. We aim to give them the best life. You may see that some of our animals have deformities, please rest assured they get the best care and vet visits and we often receive animals that people can no longer care for because of this.
